Hi, can someone tell me if this is liable to make my highly sensitive mare blow her top? basically anything with oil or sugar content including alfa-a or haylage makes her nuts! trying my hardest to get weight on the skinny TB, shes currently eating speedi beeat 1 lrg scoop of, and a handful of hifi - just cut on barley rings and hoping to get a good calm and conditioning cube tomorrow as well as redi-grass, idially i want to feed the redi grass adlib - would this be okay? also would i need to introduce it slowly as its new to her or with it being plain grass should it be okay right away?
thanks

Add Allen and Paige Calm and Condition, soak it with your speedibeet, naf thrive will hep absorb nutrients in what your feeding too

good forage like hay or haylage as much as she will eat. i feed my poor doer tb mare on ad lib haylage and 2 small feeds of hifi and speedibeet. she is also liable to do a bit of the crazy at times

i have used all sorts of different feeds for her and i found the best thing was haylage.

Was thinking allen and page calm and condition - any ideas about the redi-grass? going to start turning her out for approx 2 hrs in morning, ride her then keep her in for the day and night so she has constant access the hay

Another vote for allen and page calm and condition, got our ex polo tb mare on it and she doesn't keep weight on, and shes liking this and looks well. We also have her on build up mix of dodsen and horrell. This cobo seems to work without firing her up at all. Plus ad lib. haylage.

Allen & Paige Fast Fibre - good for putting 'safe' weight on, and they eat it too. I haven't had any probs with Readygrass being heating etc, but if so then try one of the Simple Systems types of late cut grass instead of the lusher cut grass.

We use graze-on instead of redi-grass because of the price difference per bag. We were feeding our lean TB a bucket of graze on per night alongside his hay/haylage and a hard feed. He can be quite fizzy but the graze on didn't make any difference to his temperament what so ever, will use it again when we have lean ones.

We also feed micronised linseed from Charnley Mills (they deliver) which helps with weight gain. It may be worth a try.

I have used readi-grass and have had mixed results, I fed it to ex-racer who never normally heated up, (fed Dengie Alfa-A and D&H Pasture mix, and Baileys no4 when we first got him-we also had v.good grass as was April) when he was on box rest few weeks in someone recommened Readi-grass and it did help to put weight on butmy polite horse was blowing a gaskit! 2weeks on stopped readi-grass and he settled again.

As I had over half a bag I fed it to my fat ISH who was on h'ful Alfa A D&H pasture mix and oats (swapped it with alfa) and he had so much energy!! He was like a diff horse!!

Would use again but not on sparky gee gees unless they need the extra kick, my personal experience

I have never fed allen &paige calm and condition but have fed their ride and relax to v.sparky pony (mini tb sort) and she did v.well on that- just remember to soak it!! )pony did get h'ful of readi-grass i think but dont remember what happened, probably just cantered even faster)

I would give adlib good hay, and maybe even High fibre cubes you can feed them without getting spark. Hifi isnt brilliant as the stomach can't digest it v.well and as you want to put weight on I would stop it and give extra concentrate.

NAF Thrive never used but pink powder is brilliant so thrive would be worth a try

I have fed readigrass and it was very good for keeping condition over winter. I actually prefer, or at least my horse prefers, graze on or just grass, as they're not quite so spikey and my pocket prefers them too. A&P Fast Fibre is a super feed for getting a lot of fibre in, I soak mine overnight and it fluffs up wonderfully. For all round condition, I can't praise Topspec enough even though it's expensive it works out really good value now she's on half rations.

Does Ride and Relax need soaking? I thought it was just Calm and Condition needed soaking.

A+P advise soaking all their feeds. C+C is with twice the volume of water, think the others are just equal voumes of water

I've used readi-grass on my skinny TB over the winter. Only had her on New Years Day and havent been able to ride her yet as she was in really poor condition when i had her so cant comment on whether it would make her hyper to ride but it certainly hasn't made her any more lively in stable/doing groundwork. I'm not sure how much of an effect it's had in her weight gain either as she's fed other conditioning feeds but she seems to love it so i feed it anyway. Have fed her graze on but she didnt seem as keen on it as readi-grass so have swapped back. Alsdo, graze on was cheaper but the whole bag has just lasted me 2 weeks whereas my last bag of readi grass lasted be almost 5 so has worked out cheaper in the long run.
