We finally made it to an event and completed all three phases!
We arrived with a de-pooped faced Skylla.
Skylla was not a fan of an early morning face wash but then who wants to be seen with a poopy faced Skylla
.
First up dressage, which is not her strongest phase, warm up was a little chaotic at times just with lots of horses in one warmup, but unlike Kelsall last weekend everyone was super polite. So although she was very excited and wanted to look at everything, she stayed on side and kept her head. Test was good for her, yes I would love to get my leg on more and scoop her up and forward to the contact, but she IS improving ? and we actually walked! Judge then scared the bejesus out of me by coming out of her box at the end for a word ?, never knew my stomach could drop that fast ?. However, it wasn’t to tell me off but to say how much she loved Skylla and she thinks she’s mega and I should just do dressage not eventing lol. Such a lovely thing for her to take the time to do, and she even appologised for not being able to score her higher, Skyllas head won’t fit though her stable after that! 66% which I think is a very reasonable score for our first dressage since last summer.
Next was SJ, no gap due to timing so literally swapping saddles and off we went! Not sure this was a good plan with her as she was a bit full on ?, that or the judges comments had gone to her head ?. She was absolutely flying, but unfortunately had one pole. just didn't feel I could get her into a rhythm without Skylla grabbing the bit and going weeeeeeeeee, Skylla gave no cares at being told she is a rude thug ??
.
Had enough time to give her a wee break before XC which seemed to do the trick of calming her beans a touch! Though still nearly jumped me off over a practice fence ???
?. Stormed the XC, no spooking just focussed and asking which fence next, took a pole off a working hunter fence as I just didn't get her back enough but I am so chuffed with how brave she was! Lots of horses seemed to find the course spooky in places and after Topaz it always makes me wary but Skylla is such a breath of fresh air! Still 3.2 seconds too slow and I thought we went so fast lol, think I need to get more used to jumping at speed...
Feel super about the upcoming season now!
