Well I just seen someone post about wanting to save a slaughter horse, so I thought I would post some pics of the one that we saved to see what you guys think of him :D

His name is Turbo, he is about 4 years old, he's around 14.3hh and is a French Comtois (correct my spelling if thats wrong..). He was saved by my YO, along with another gelding, Diesal, who unfortunately had to be PTS :(
Anyway, here is some pics of him! (I can't find the pics of him when he first came, he looks 10000x worse than what he does in the first pic. It is him in the middle pic on the right. Diesal is the one on the left.)

This is him a couple of months after we got him, but in the winter!

This is him on his first ever beach hack! You would think he had been going down there all his life, what a star he was :) even tryed to roll in the water!!

As much as I don't necessarily agree with doing this, I can't help but look at these pics and think good on you! Who wouldn't be touched at seeing a nice pony having a nice life when he was destined for something altogether different.

Oh my god he is the actual spit of my Marley, he was imported and I bought him from a dealer. Best horse ever straight as a dime and beautiful I will attempt to attach a photo. Well done to you both for finding each other he is chunky and gorgeous. Dx

hasn't this post shrunk?

What happened to the also georgeous english racehorse that was also saved from slaughter in france only days after its last race here?

Am I dreaming or just plain balmy?

Loving your boy op

He is simply gorgeous. Nice to hear a story with a happy ending. Too many nice Comtoise finish up in the slaughter house. They are strong good tempered and sensible for riding and driving.

Well sorry if we're not allowed to discuss it. I'm quite new, so therefore don't know what I'm allowed to write and what I'm not.

Thankyou for everyones nice comments. Though I have to say, its not me in any of these pictures and he's not my horse, I've just helped him along his journey with my YO :)

neither my dear. We all have hands up our bottoms= the 'The Horse and Hound' and the HHo. Melvyn White is birling in his grave. The whole scene has become disgustingly UNPROFESSIONAL and very little to do with equines (unless you like to hear 'yes' men and about the number of studs in some idiots truck). Thank god I live abroad and dont have to buy the rag, at least the Italian equiv's have better pics! So sad to see the living death of what was once a weekly of high calibre and intelligence. At least we now know where the 'Jackie' staff ended up!
Disgusted from Chelmsford.

And what was wrong with "Jackie" :p Thought I was losing the plot on seeing how this thread has shrunk, luckily the case of the racehorse seems to have been taken up by a lot of other equine forums, including a well known betting site, which is the main thing.
OP I did comment previously to congratulate you and your YO on your lad, but seems my post was removed.

nothing was wrong with the 'Jackie' when one was 13 and believed that you risked pregnancy through the use of public toilets (sitting on the pan could involve fertilisation of ones monthly ovum) Sadly, by becoming an adult, you learn the truth.-its a lot messier and sometimes, just as unexpected!

Blimey what happened to my post? It seems to have disappeared.

Anyway, what I said was that he looks a sweetie and it was a shame that the other one had to be pts.

I did opine that for what this one had cost, you could have saved 10 scraps, not bred for meat, from the markets over here though.

If that horse stepped to the left you would fall back and land right on your head!!!! You must be bonkers to sit on a horse like that without a hat

Glad to see he is having a lovely, happy useful life now. Well done. Have to agree that there are 1000s in this country that deserve this too though. What makes a foreign horse more appealing or deserving i dont know  Especially as a comtois is not really bred for riding- so why pick that for a riding horse?

Nice that he has a quality of life all the same.

I think.....it would have been better to have saved a horse already in this country.....perhaps one whose owner could no longer afford him or had been mistreated.....plenty of those need rescuing. Or donated the money you've spent to a sanctuary/rehabiliation centre.

That way....no importing of horses (potentially) carrying disease and putting all of our own horses at risk.......

Lovely pics.
This is only the second one of this breed i have seen.
I was stewarding a rare and foriegn breeds class last year. I know little about any of them so learnt a great deal. I looked at one of this breed and thought it was a not so good Haflinger:o Good job i was not the judge:D:D

Agree with Poppymoo completely.

But then if what WishfulThinker is saying is true.....

wonder how this post has gone unnoticed this long....

Ohh, I know them some how.......were they advertised for sale at one point before your YO got them?

They didnt actually come from France did they?

He does look well though :)

noope they wernt lol.. but yeah they did. it wasnt my YO that got them transported etc, it was someone else so no need for all the 'would be more worthwhile saving horses from our country'..
we only got these because they are safe, and you can trust them. i doubt you can say that about many tb's tbh :)
