Hiya,

I'm just starting sledding with my dog. He doesn't really get the idea of pulling yet, do any of you have any tips? Also any UK mushing webbies would be nice!

What breed is he?
I'm getting into bikejoring, and I started my dog with just me running and him hooked to me on a bungee line (caniX basically). When he was keeping up properly and running forward (without constantly sticking his nose on the ground which he is prone to do) I hung back so there was tension in the line but still encouraging him to go forward with my voice (this really took a while since I've reinforced NO PULLING AT ALL since I've had him :p but he eventually caught on that when he's harnessed he can pull) I'd also hook him to the line and throw balls etc, and let him pull over to the toy. So pulling started to be rewarding rather than pointless like it has been!

He's going forward now and manages to keep a tension on the line. Don't ask me about direction changes though :P

ETA - if you've got someone who can ride up ahead of you to encourage the dog is always a bonus, or to run him with anyone you know with dogs that know what they're doing!
