Sleep tight Dorey pony

So sorry for your loss :(

This is exactly the same thing that happened to my friends 22 year old horse a couple of months ago. It looked like he literally laid down and went to sleep - no struggle, no straw disturbance, nothing

You probably can't see it at the moment in your grief, but what a peaceful way for your pony to go xxx

R.I.P Dorey.

Hugs to you, take comfort in the fact she just fell asleep and didn't wake up. As awful as it sounds, there are worse ways to die.

Hope your okay xxxx

Oh no, I'm so sorry. I know how much you love her.

I don't know if this will help but you say horrific trauma, akin to an RTA. My husband went through such a thing following an RTA: multiple life-threatening injuries including to his head, heart and lungs, he 'died' several times on the operating table, he 'remembers' being in a sort of dreamworld, he 'remembers' feeling calm and happy and 'looking forward to what came after', he 'remembers' feeling that he had to come back to be with me and 'remembers' hearing my voice (I wasn't there) and thinking that he would be happy to go 'on' but that he should come back. He did. He is a sceptic who does not believe in this sort of experience but knows that that is what happened to him.

If Dorey's experience of catastrophic failure was anything like his she may have gone "looking forward" and from what you say she had not a hair out of place and no disturbed bedding so I hope that was how she felt.

I wish you peace to recover your happy memories.

RIP Dorey

Yet she was lying peacfully, surrounded by undisturbed bedding, not a drop of sweat and not a hair out of place. She'd just lay down and died.
Same as mine, there was no bedding disturbed and the mare looked perfect with not even a scratch on her. I thought she was sleeping when I first saw her lying down in the barn. It was only when I called her and as there was no response I went over to her and saw she was dead. She was still warm and soft so she must have died only moments before. Her best friend was dozing right next to her and definitely hadn't realise she was gone either

I have tears in my eyes: RIP to the lovely Dorey, and thoughts and wishes to you Serenity. I'm so glad that she fell asleep and left this earth so peacefully: I'm just sorry it had to be so soon 80( *hugs*
