Yesterday after days of soul searching, coming to a decision, only to back track later, we had our old guy put to sleep after a last breakfast of all the nice things he liked, but couldn't eat for fear of his laminitus.
Our vet was fantastic, and afterwards said it was the right choice, the little man looked like he was full of lymphoma which indeed explained the rapid change downhill change in him.
Time heals apparently, right now it doesn't feel that way, but i know Skip is no longer in pain, and the cold will never bother him again.
Box Of Frogs......thankyou, you made the worst day of my life so far, slightly more bareable with your advice and words of wisdom.

Sleep well Skip, may your bones never ache again and your grass always be green.

Joanne, I am so sorry to hear this but also in no doubt this decision was most carefully deliberated and arrived at from a humane and responsible direction.

Sleep well, Skip. You were a lucky chap to have a proper horse person looking after you when it came to your most important need.

The very best people are the ones who look after their horses and ponies until their end. You are one of those and I bow down to you. Your pony knew he was loved and how many can say that.
No more pain just sleep and peace.

He was lucky to have you as an owner and you were lucky to have such a gorgeous boy (he looks like the pony I used to dream of owning when I was a little girl).
I won't say time heals but it does help you get used to life without your lad.
Eventually your pain will turn to happy memories. Hugs to you.

What a really kind eye he has in his photo - looks such a lovely boy.

If only all horse owners were as caring and courageous as you (and so many others on here who have lost their equine friends in 08 and shared their heartbreaking stories with us) the world would be a happier place for horses to live.

Thankyou everyone for the kind messages and pm's, they have helped at what has been an awful time.
The children (as everyone who knew him) miss him dreadfully, mornings just dont quite feel the same right now, but it was absolutely the right thing and the right time. I think he knew his time was coming to an end, as did his field mates.
The night before everyone who wanted to see him, came to say goodbye, and many a tear was spilt, and continues to be.
I have to say a massive thankyou to our vet, who made skippy's passing so easy for him, for that i will be ever grateful.

Your post made me fill up - what a lovely kind face he has - You did the right thing - it was the most responisble decision to make - it's an awful hole that they leave us with - but it does get easier with time - Hope you're ok

RIP little pony. Hugs to you - lost my little one last month too and reading your post and all the messages made me cry all over again! You have done the best for him, and now he can be at peace.
