Celebrating the life of my Cork-a-lork who travelled to new countries, kept the boys in line, and never complained *much*. My faithful friend for seventeen years, you deserve a peaceful sleep.

loves xx

RIP beautiful little dog. What a long and happy life you've enjoyed. Sleep tight now.

Sorry to divert the thread but your other dog looks the spitting image of mine! I did a double take when I saw it.

what a lovely looking little dog :) sleep tight little one!! xx

a little poem i thought was sweet :) :-

The time has come for the tears to end
for you to be happy and cheerful again.
I am safe in God's home above
cradled in His arms; covered with His love.

We run and play by the Bridge all day
waiting for the day when you'll be here to stay.
You've been crying so much I feel bad
I want you to be happy and not so sad.

Remember the time when I was so small
I couldn't even pickup the rubber ball.
I fought that ball from morning to night
it made you laugh, I was quite a sight.

Remember teaching me sit and stay
we had such fun since I didn't really obey.
but you kept at it with test after test
so when I entered my first show I was the best.

Remember the great times we had in the past
like when we walked to the park we had a blast.
We'd run and play all through the park
until the sun went down and it got dark.

Remember the times we went for a ride
I was so excited I'd jump right inside.
Away we went to who knows where
but you and I we didn't really care.

I'll always love you, you're my best friend
I'll be right with you even to the end.
Always remember the great times we had
and there will be no reason to ever be sad.

Thanks everyone. It's been hard decision. And as sad as I feel, I also feel relief. Vet said her heart was still very strong and her lungs sounded not too bad as well. But he agreed it was a good time to go. He allowed me to roll the vein which I haven't done for some fifteen years when I last worked for a vet. But somehow I remembered how - and he did really well to find her tiny veins first time. Sorry if that sounded really clinical....my poor hubby has never been present while a pet has been euthanised so it was a bit hard for him. I tried to prepare him ahead of time and told him that Corki would probably not be an easy one to watch because she's been so awkward to touch for the last six months or so.

I brought her to the shop with me yesterday for a last groom and pampering session. She seemed to rather enjoy the bath, but for the first time in her life she was really fighting with me over her nails. Got one or two done and left it...

The boys have been looking for her in her usual bed - and Chester had a wee curl up in it last night for a bit (he's never gone in there before). Hubby thought they might be looking for her more today, but they will be with me all day today and tomorrow as we'll be off at the LovePets show in Edinburgh as exhibitors demonstrating to folk how to look after a dog's coat in between professional visits. I think it'll be a good distraction for the three of us.

Red, you're right, they are an awful lot alike. I've often thought that when you've posted pics of your wee dog - he's a border x lhasa right?

Thanks again all. It was you guys that I turned to first when I started contemplating this last spring. I knew in my heart this would be her last summer.

Yes, she was a feisty one - always was thru her old age even.

My favorite memory of her was when she was just about a year or two old, I brought her to my sister's out in the country...my sister had fancy chickens that were twice the size of Corks. Anyway, she took one look at the chicken and went in to attack mode and next thing I know, she's on the back of one of them and was being rodeoed round the garden! I managed to get her off without doing much damage to the chicken (other than some lost feathers, it was fine). At the time I could have killed her but my sister and I were in stitches.

Anyway, 17 years is a long time to have built up some memories. I'm sure everyone that has a dog/cat/horse etc has fond memories....it is really hard losing them but all the other time having them more than makes up for it.

The boys are out and about with me this weekend at the LovePets exhibition in Edinburgh so are quickly aquiring some new human fans. The three of us are going to be exhausted come tonight...it's the first time they've ever done something like this so are taking it all reallly well.
