Slight oedema on belly

My mare has developed a slight swelling on her tummy, just before her teets ~ about 10-12 cms, her teets aren't swollen, there isn't any heat.
The swelling isn't hard, it's quite squishy and there isn't any heat.
She's not particularly fond of you touching it, but once you do, she's not phased if you poke it ~
Any ideas?
BTW, she's a 5yo 16.2TBxCB, worked 4-5 days, out all day, in at night.

Hmmm is there any chance that she may be infoal? some mares - infact very few - will develop an oedema infront of the bag, before bagging up. If the oedema is to be present, it usually comes after the mare has started bagging up - but not unheard of to be the other way around......

is she in a field with others, if so could it be a kick, i know its an odd spot but they happen in the funniest of places!

It could be mastitis, if it was an odema you when you prodded it, it would leave a dent

It could be a reaction to those little black flys, which love to bite around that area.
