Slight rant and would you be annoyed too?

My mums pony is in a barn on the yard (think its 14ft by 20ft, she doesn't seem to like small spaces) and one side of the barn is another barn (same size) which is let out for storage, has been fine so far but people who had it have left so new people came in yesterday putting big blue metal things in there which look like they should be on a building site, it also now stinks of paint.
They were getting them out this morning and it was scareing (sp) mums pony, she was running round in there snorting, getting worked up.
Mum politely asked one man if this was going to be a regular thing and he said yes. came back from turning them out and they were painting them, other man came over and started ranting 'whats with the attitude' we explained we didn't have an attitude but they were scareing the horses and he told us this would be happening on a regular basis (everyday) as they are using it as a workshop! (have shortened that convo alot so this isn't overly long) he wasn't very nice at all.
This is also all happening in front of the outdoor school, which i can see may cause problems spooking horses if anyone is trying to ride while they are there.
Told him we would speak to YO about this but don't want to really as he has far worse things to deal with (close family member in intensive care)

Sorry for the rather long rant, would you also be annoyed?
 
I might be secretly a little bit miffed, but to be fari he is presumably paying money to rent the area for his own use?

Once I'd got over my slight 'nose out of joint' moment I'd just get on with it. The horses will get used to things and will learn to ignore.

I'd be cheesed off to - but as IHW says, pony will get used to it.
 
Yes he is paying to rent the area and i know its not his fault but he was rather rude this morning, if he had been polite back all i would have asked him was what time they get down there so we can get down earlier and turn mums pony out before they start banging about and painting etc. but he jumped down our throats.
Was the first time we have met them so not a good start, will try and ask them tomorrow morning, hopefully he will be in a better mood.

DIY livery yard, some barns have always been rented as storage but only ever been storage, never had work going on on the yard.
 
I'd look for somewhere else, if you can't approach your YO, esp as from what you've said, YO doesn't appear to be able to cope with your concerns.
 
The place I am on now has a scaffolding company, a motorbike garage, a landscape gardening company, a kitchen builder/fitter and a feed merchants all using the place for storage/workshops. Yes, it's noisy and busy with large vehicles including articulated lorries coming and going, but none of the horses mind, and new ones get used to it in a really short space of time precisely because it is constant rather than once every so often I think.

I wouldn't worry about it, your mum's pony will very quickly get used to it all.
 
The horses get used to it, my yard always has bangs and crashes from the miriad of Workshops and regularly have articulated lorries go past. My mare is used to them and ignores them, to the point where she is flat out asleep with them rumbling past.

The horses will get used to it and it wil be a good desenitisation excercise

hey have you any spaces i have a big girls blouse of a horse who jumps out of her skin at anything a couple of months at this yard would be great were are you?
 
Ponies do get used to noise etc but I was worried about the comment about smelling paint. I would be concerned what was being done in the workshop and what effect any fumes created would have on the pony.
 
I am concerned about the paint, it does smell in her barn and outside. I am not sure how much or what paint is in there but the thought of it being a fire hazard does worry me.We had a barn full of hay go up a few years back (still don't know how it started) which some of the horses were very close to, luckily someone saw and let them all out.
 
There are regulations re the storage of imflammables. I would check with your local environmental health officer. Get him or her to come and have a look around. I suspect change of use would be required from planning, and that would be subject to safety conditions being met.
