The boys had whole rabbits today. It took aaaages for them to realise theywere edible, not toys. We had lots of carrying them round, licking, stealing from Brig (who decided he is just too precious to eat whole rabbits, even though he likes to bring me them in the woods:rolleyes:).

Zak decided because Brig didn't want his bunny, Zak ought to have it! I am delighted that the pups got the idea (eventually) after lots of licking and carrying the bunnies back and forth and some tentative bites!

Bear started with the head (euw!) and ate all of it.

Zak left a bit:

(I took the second one off him, he and Bear can share it tomorrow, it's big enough for both of them, really.)

They're both exhausted from chomping so long and the new experience.

how lovely..bet they love it
sorry cant see pics atm..edit..yep i can see pics now
if they are freshly caught bunnies maybe its worth worming them
i know dogs 'can' catch worms by eating freshly caught bunnies

The were frozen (obviously properly defrosted for consumption). I'm guessing that would get rid of worms? Dunno. They're due anyway and I feel a trip to Pets at Home coming on tomorrow.:D

Sorry, but that last picture made me laugh.....the bunny looks like a scooter?!

Great that they ate them. We thought about getting a rifle to shoot bunnies for our dogs...still might. We live next to a farm so plenty opportunity. One of them has caught a live one then killed and ate it so I think eating them shouldn't be an issue.

that should be fine

my dog had caught and eaten a fresh bunny sometime ago and she got tapeworm not long after..she was wormed two weeks previous when she caught the bunny

it wasnt nice seeing crawl tapeworm coming out of her so i do advice to regulary worm dogs if they catch/eat their own prey etc

Although my older collie hass had the fun and games of catching his own dinner before...it took the dozy lurcher 3 years to fianlly catch her 1st bunny!

She did the work so she got it for her dinner:) now when we walk the copse she is much more observant of the spaniel x and what she flushes out of the undergrowth;)

a friend of mine thought it was a bit yucky- but then she feeds her dog tinned meat that claims to be rabbit:rolleyes:

but agree with the scooter bunny :o:D

Evie has got a good system going with the cat, cat catches rabbits and starts eating them, and if Evie spots her she mugs her and finishes rabbit, which usually involves swallowing it whole. I am not too sure the cat is so keen on the arrangement.
Would agree about worming if eating fresh rabbit, unfortunately due to said cats rabbit catching she pukes worms about once a month, not good when this means I have to attempt to worm her!:p

Drontal,as far as I am aware does NOT get rid of tapeworm..you need Panacur 10% for three days running. Rabbits are full of tapeworm eggs ,as are sheep paunches.

Mine are running around the garden with a bit of lung and trachea each from a cow they are loving it. Wanna see?

I am. Vowing to worm regular now after the parasite incident plus today showed how much soil they get on their meat puppy has dragged his under the hedge

Yes, please! Show me a scooter pic! Maybe we should do a raw feeding picture gallery!

Beautiful, beautiful dog! How old?

Loving the gaping pipe bits-euw!

Went to Pets at Home today for the wormer and the OH felt bad cos he was eyeing up the rabbits thinking they were a good size for a dog's tea!

The blasted cleaver wouldn't cut through the remaining bunny so I used the kitchen scissors, then called the dogs. Zak picked up one half, all the entrails dropped out, so Bear nicked them then grabbed his piece. Just charming!

Rottweiler x saint Bernard 19 weeks and the other us Teal springer x lab 3yrs old. Out of interest did we conclude how long to freeze bunny? my farrier has just given/left me 7 ! If any one Nr chichester wants a couple pm me lol

I normally use Hyperdrug but get carried away with that website!

I think several days for freezing rabbits-someone mentioned a week for pork, I guess the same for bunnies. Dunno.

Reckon you should do an album of the dogs. How tall is the St Bernard cross?

He's Bout 2" bigger than my friends working cocker. He's 16 kilo atm. I will do an album at some point net v slow so might not b able to until we get broad band.

Just a baby? My pups are 20kg, only springers! They're 9 months and taller than the adult we have.

You need a DIY axe that will sort the front from the back!!!

My old girl used to leave the entrails, but she used to drag them out and show people how clever she was to catch her own!!!
