Hi Everybody,

I really should be working, but am struggling with motivation!!

I just wondered does anybody have a horse or pony with the prefix 'Cromer' I used to work there in a previous life, recently saw one of my second to last crop of foals for sale, now all grown up and just wondered about the others!! I think all of them were given names beginning with 'C'.

From the Cromer Stud, near Stevenage? It would be lovely to know what happened to any of them!! (plus I have probably got some photos somewhere of at least a few of them!!)

I had one called Cromer Chorister - a palomino but that was back in the early 1980s. He was not the easiest of horses but did win a lot local show jumping and I sold him to a pony club home in 1983.

I was still at primary school then!!! Cromer Century was foal number 100 in about 95ish so there must be/have been quite a few kicking about, from those I remember they were quite frequently not the easiest!!

Thistle, are there still loads of palomino's in the field just as you come into cromer from Walkern?? Surely they are not still there???

Not any more, when I first moved here 15 years ago there were quita a few and some foals too. Now there is the occasional one and the odd foal.

Mrs L is pretty ancient now though.

Wow!! I often wonder what happened to them, I left at the end of 97 because I wanted a job with more riding and less breeding but I learnt so much from them!! I remember never having seen such a tidy muck heap when I first started, and wondering why so much time was spent on it, but it was probably the first thing I did on every yard I worked on after my time there!! I swear you could have put a spirit level on it the steps were so straight!!!

I used to ride a 'Cromer' horse, he is a Palomino Welsh cross Arab

Well well well, I've just found this thread. I too worked for Mr & Mrs L - way back in 1977! Our head girl came from Sprowston in Norfolk, and I worked with Paula Titmuss (Paula passed away a couple of years ago sadly)

I actually dreamt up the name Cromer Caramax - all the names were kept in the back of the diary and religiously transferred at the start of each new year.

Chandy was the stallion while I was there, and Blue a cremello was one of the only two foals born that year. They had two riding horses - Cracker and Ariel, plus Latchford jnrs Showjumping mare Comic Colours - she was one of my favourites - a chestnut mare, but so kind :)

I used to own a cromer horse, Cromer Caftan, absolutely fab little horse, we had great times together until he died in 1998, aged 28, Raksha you may recall him, although he may have already been sold by 1977.

I vaguelly remember Cromer caramax! I live very near. The last time I saw Mrs Latchford was at a local show about 14yrs ago. My chesnut arab mare beat one hers in the Arab/partbred class.

wow thats a blast from the past! I bought a yearling gelding Cromer Carraman - I think it was in 1991 - by Cromer Carramax. He was an absolutely beautiful palomino horse who won a lot in hand e.g. the Lilley Horse show and when ridden I did some dressage. I sold him after I went to Uni about 6 years later and he went to a lovely home in Hampshire although I sadly didnt stay in touch. Very loving trusting temperment although he was a bit scatty. Carramax was quite dark palamimo although my chap - stable name Boysie - was quite light palamino.

They started my life long palamino passion (if I could another horse that was as good as my mare I have now and palamino I would be in horsey heaven!)

What happened to the stud? If I remember correctly their horses were quite successful across a range of disciplines....

Hello, just joined the forum today. I have Cromer Carnabee (1991) sire: Cromer Caramax; Dam: Cromer Carefree. I bought him from Mr and Mrs Latchford when he was 10 months old - hard to believe he is now 23 years old and still going well and we have been together since the first day I saw him. He is beautiful and such a gentleman. Mr/Mrs Latchford asked me to keep in touch, and every year since owning Carnabee I have sent them a Christmas card, letter and photo of him letting them know how he is doing. Hope this helps.

I heard the sad news today that Mrs L has gone to that great paddock in the sky, reunited with Dick and all the dogs, cats, horses and chickens that went before....

I hope it's OK to post here, but trying to resurrect this thread. Does anyone still have a cromer? I still have my boy his name is Cromer Chablis, I kept the name Chablis. He's now 26 his paperwork states sire Cromer Cloud (Cromer carramax) / Cromer Caress . Dam Cromer Cherish ( Kharif morning star/comic colours) just wondering if any of his siblings are out there. Thanks so much in advance!
