slipping and sliding

Whilst doing road work I have noticed that my horse tends to slip/slide more than what i would expect. More than often it is on a smoother road than so called roads with a little more grip. He is shod every six weeks but after so long he does have wear on the shoes. Are road nails the answer. Are road nails effective. Are there any other ways of preventing this. Any advise any one ?
 
In my area they re surfaced a few of the roads with very slippery tarmac. At that point I asked my farrier to add road studs to my shoes, he hammers these into stud holes in the outside heels, the only problem is this means I cannot use screw in studs. These studs have a steel core that sticks out very slightly and helps my horse to keep her grip. My friend has a couple of special nails put in.
 
I have road nails fitted to the outside edge of my boys back shoes and they really help. He used to slide that much that he was nearly sitting on the floor. It seems to give him a bit more confidence when we walk down hills. Even though he has them, i do avoid walking him over drain covers or manholes. If you do a lot of road work i'd definately have them.
 
I have road nails on my lot as our roads are awful, mine have 2 in each shoe, this could be slight paranoiya(sp) on my part but one of mine came down on top of me once because he didn't have any in - farrier I used (only once) insisted they didn't need them, this happen the day after being shod.
 
I'm intersted in finding out more about these road nails.
My horse has started to slip even when going up steep hills aswell as down and gives me a fright every time he slips incase he ends up on his bum.
 
Yep I use road nails as one of my mares seems to slip a lot, and hates feeling unsure of her footing. The other mare doesn't seem to slip and if she does its once in a blue moon and it doesn't bother her.

I use two in each shoe, one inside, one out, and for my girl, its worth that little extra expense.
 
Quite honestly the idea of hacking on these roads today without road nails would scare me silly,come off on tarmac..no thanks!
