slipping saddles and elastic girths

has anyone had problems with saddles slipping when using a girth with elastic insert, and had it stop when changing to a non elastic?

Yes i had this problem. One of my boys is quite wide and when jumping i found the saddle slipping sometimes. The saddle fits him fine and once i changed to a non elastic girth it got much better. last week i took him to a ODE and during the SJ my saddle started slipping and i realised i had the elastic girth on!

elastic girths notorious for not helping a slippy saddle

my pony has barrell - slippy saddle syndrome and the answe ris limpet pad + stubben cord girth. works wonders for us, saddle never budges

i havent seen one of those stubben girths, i remember the old style string girths, they arent like those are they?

yes but they are much nicer, they cost about £25 and if you machine wash them be careful 30degrees only, mine has slowly shrunk a little more every time i have washed it.
i was worried the strings would pinch etc but it doesnt seem to and my pony is fully clipped and has had no objections to it

I have changed to a Stubben Cord Girth and it's fantastic. Would highly recommend one

vicki, have just googled limpet pads, how does it work, does it actually 'stick to surfaces?

Yup, it will affect it, as with the elastic, you'll keep over-tightening to compensate, but because of the give, the saddle will keep moving

echo - limpet pad and stubben string girth - ab fab nothing else worked for mine!

If the elastic inserts are on both sides rather than just the near side as is normal then that should eliminate the slipping. I'd recommend the Professionals Choice girths.

The wintec girths are ok as elastic is even. Elastic at one end always slips though.
