Can anyone tell me how you can make concrete less slippy where people soak their nets? Its like an ice rink and is an accident waiting to happen. I can't do anything about the net soaking but would like to try and manage /maintain it with something I can regularly put down or do to make it safer.

Thanks!!

rubber matting might be your best bet. A designated draining area with a run off away from the yard and emptying the water out into a drain rather than across the yard.
Ours was a bath which we soaked a whole bale, pulled the plug and then left to drain the plug hole had a pipe on it going to the drain to avoid the water sitting and freezing on the yard.

Jeyes fluid and a stiff brush. Only problem is the place will smell like a public bog. (for those that can remember public bogs!)

Give it a good scrub with a hard brush and dettol/any other outdoor wash/ disinfectant it can get pretty slimy easy. So can where the haynets hang in the stable!

I had a block and tackle fitted over the hay soaker. Clip wet net to chain and hoist up. (much easier on the back) Allow net to drain into a trug that is sitting in a wheel barrow. Once net has drained then wheel away water to appropriate place to empty. Drop net to be hung back into dry trug and wheel to stable. Hang it up and remove wheelbarrow etc. Soaker has a length of hosepipe fitted to it and it drains away to the field side. Minimal water splash on the yard with that.

I havent been on the yard very long so dont feel confident enough to make it an issue. Just wanted to see if there was anything I can do myself to improve it before me (or my horse!) go flying! A lady soaks her nets and just tips them out with a rubbish drain. I did wonder whether to just jet wash it but it can be slippy again almost instantly so would be a waste of time as this is every day! !

Definitely speak to your yard manager! You can bring it up in confidence with them and they should respect that. We had the same issue on our yard, my pony slipped and skidded most days but another horse fell and got a few scrapes!

the YO jet washed the area and has now said that after tipping nets, the area needs to be hosed down.

This worked at first when people were doing it but unfortunately a lot of selfish people have gone back on it.

Is there a less trafficy area where they can tip them?
