Just a quick question, which of the above is better for adding condition, my mare is currently on boxrest so will miss the lush grass and due to box rest is starting to drop off with boredom. I am also looking for something high in protein as she walks out but has a lack of muscle due to box rest but it is an ongoing issue to which the vet prescribed equitop myoplast and she refused to eat it therefore vet reccomends a high protein diet. Will either of these mashes provide condition and high protein if not can I have a recommendedation for the protein side.

She is currently fed, sugarbeet, fibrebeet, herbi chop and showshine chaff and micronised linseed (which hasn't added any condition at all evern receiveing 4 cups a day). Also she won't eat oil in her feeds so that's a no go too. She is veryyyy fussy.

Slobbermash is better for condition, but can be like rocket fuel to some! Its around 44% starch too, so if you're barefoot or ulcer prone ect I'd go for the solution mash.

What about adding a balancer? They are very high in protein and will give her the things she is missing from the spring grass. Plus they have prebiotics in them which will help her process her fibre feeds.
Out of slobber mash or solution mash id prob choose the later for box rest ad its low in starch :).

try alfalfa,we use the pellets soaked into a mash, naturally high in protein, vits & mins, very low starch, doesn't make them silly, just like good grass.

Which balancer would you recommend? I don't think I have heard of alfalfa pellets before is there a particular brand that is good? Are they the same as grass pellets? Thanks for all the comments may have to do abit more diggin lol

We use alfalfa pellets from Emerald Green Feeds,Dengie do them as well,Just not as well publisised as alfa a as cheaper!
We feed with selenavite e vit & min supplement & protexin gut balancer or acid ease, for anything with problems, travelling or under extra stess like competing.
All do really well, even the fussiest like it.we're on facebook[livery at abbotsholme stud] if you want to see some pics.
