Anyone else finding its difficult to shift that final bit of your horses coat this spring?
My welsh section D always grows a thick winter coat being a native and is generally fully clipped, but last winter as he was doing less work decided to just give him a trace clip, but now he's been moulting for about 2 months and its still not all gone! My arms have toned up though through all the goooming!

Anyone got any comments ideas on shifting the final bit!?:)

i was dreading ours moulting this year (loads of white fluff sticking to everything) but they seem to have lost it all really fast this year.
my shetland is always slow to lose his though so i comb him with the tail-rake-thingy.

To be honest because of the exceptionally warm weather we have been having I think we have all forgotton its only early May! We have had some really wierd weather, hot days and cold nights which I think is confusing them a bit as well! I was talking to an eventer (4* rider) yesterday and commmented that hers all looked well on in their coats and she confessed they have had the clippers out as they were still a bit shaggy!

i did not think coat shedding had anything to do with the temperature but that it was the daylight hours that triggers it.

After bathing mine in that good weather we had and shedding his coat i though we were getting somewhere. I got to him today, he was curly coated from standing in the rain last night not using his shelter and we seem to be coming out in great tufts again, last week he seemed much thinner coated.

His head chest, girth area and tops of legs are 'balder looking' so i think he looks like a chick that's losing it';s baby feathers...poor thing. Hopefully it's over soon and i love the tache/beard/hairy mouth!

Argh! Glad I'm not the only one!

Len's hunter clipped, but goes a rubbish browny-bleached colour (he's black, or should be ;)) He's losing his winter bleachedness in patches, and they are slowly joining up

It's taking forever! Can't remember it being this colour before!
