slug&snail warning

My husband took our dog to the vet for annual vaccinations yesterday and he asked about wormers and specifically the risk of lungworm.

Apparently the vets attitude was 'don't worry about it'. Humans eat snails and can eat garden snails and we don't worry about lungworm! I have to say I was a bit surprised.

I did notice that he came home with normal wormer and 'advocate' which I understand treats fleas and lungworm. Dread to think what that lot has cost me as he put it on my account!

My vet said something similar, when I asked about treatment for the pup. Said although there was a lot of talk about it they had seen very few cases, did give me some advocate as Freya is at the eat everything state. There is another practice in the area who keep getting scaremonger reports printed in the local papers about lungworm, parvo etc , I do wonder if its just a way of generating more income.

We have seen a fair amount of lungworm cases and we are based Nr Dartford in Kent. I wouldnt risk it personally. Suprised other vets have that wouldnt worry" attitude.

We offer inhouse baermanns testing at cheap price for anyone concerned about there pet but alwas recommend switching to advocate.
