I have just taken one of mine off the grass completely which I have never had to do before. I had aleady reduced her grass significantly and bought her in overnight on soaked hay, but she is still holding onto her weight. So until her weight is under control its turnout in the arena, lots of exercise and occasional grazing in hand. Luckily she seems quite happy with this because she doesn't cope very well with horseflies but I would still prefer her to have more turnout. I'm hoping with this dry weather the grass will start to slow down!
Good post...advice for all others...see The Laminitis Site and read up about it, plus sluggishness/overweight/footiness are all signs of PPID ( official name for cushings now)...EMS/IR can be controlled with diet and exercise and controlled grazing...PPID is the same but the hporse needds to be on Prascend to control symptoms/imbalance.
Winter time is a peak time for ACTH levels, hardest for us PPID owners to help our horses..bizarrely not in the summer. If diet, management is correct but your horse is still getting LGL, the problem hasnt been resolved..ie either diet, Prascend ( amount of tablets, they can have up to 5 tablets a day) and/or management..
