Hi all, has anyone else noticed an increase in the amount of slugs on the fields this year? We rest half our land for winter turnout, sorting out any weeds etc during this time and keeping the field topped to allow a good sward to grow. This has worked well over the years but this year we seen to have a real plague of slugs! The grass doesn't seem to be growing as well this year, is it being eaten but the slugs? How can we get rid of them? Are they a danger to the horses? HELP!!!!!

I don't know about in the fields, but I've certainly had a plague of slugs in my kitchen! They've been driving me crazy all summer.

Not sure what to suggest. I assume slug pellets are harmful to horses?

There were slugs in my feed room this morning for some reason! Horrid things . Nowt you can do about them in your pasture, though. Except perhaps start a hedgehog farm?

Copper tape is brilliant for a perimeter line.

Ours cats won't touch food once a slug has been near and as such we line with salt or copper tape!

Anniearab, chain harrows would be good if I could find a farmer who isn't tied up with harvest. Bits of slugs all over the field sounds rather yuck! Pandorasjar, I don't think I could afford copper tape to go round 4 acres and would this keep them in rather than keeping them out lol Any other ideas?
