Slutty horrid mare

I've had Pickle for over 4 years & have hardly noticed her seasons but since we bought a new, very handsome gelding a month ago she has become a complete tart. Luckily he seems to be more interested in eating grass than her sticking her bum in his face but her legs are gross & really stinky. Are there any supplements that would lower her newly found sex drive? I love her really, it's just the state of her legs & trying to lead the 2 of them up to the yard this evening with her trying to seduce him was not easy.

We have two mares who are spending a lot of time gazing over the wall at the geldings, fluttering their eyelashes and weeing a lot. I think the boys are quite scared at this blatent sexual harassment and are keeping away from the wall.

Hmmmm. Mine is similar although she doesn't get the stinky stuff to such a degree. She is a total slapper though & will flirt with anything remotely male!

Would Stroppy Mare help? I've never had this problem so not really much help but I know where you're coming from

ETS, never had this problem to the degree you're having it. I do not make myself clear sometimes!

I'm shocked at the change in her. There are 3 other geldings she has shared a field with for over 3 years & others have come & gone with no tarty behaviour but she is just gross with this one. I was hoping it would be warm this weekend so I can wash her legs but the forecast is grotty.

Smear baby oil down her legs and bottom. It stops the yuck sticking so much.

A cold shower might do her good!

I've given her a good talking to & pointed out he's a gelding so can't give her babies! Seriouslty though i'm worried that she might convince him to have a go & get hurt. Googling supplements & they all seem to be about easing discomfort. Also she is spending all her time trying to seduce him instead of eating grass & I'm also worried about whether she will make herself ill not eating. Seperating them isn't an option (ex dairy farm, farmer not horsey so odd rules) & it's the only place locally where they can live out all year & 2 of mine hate being stabled.

Don't mention the talk. I've had the Birds & Bees talk with Sunny. She flicks an ear at me then no sooner is she back out then flashing her bits at anything remotely male

I know what you're saying though. S took it on herself to jump a 4ft hedge to get to the neighbours geldings (over a 10 acre field too!) & ended up with an abscess through a thorn getting into her coronet band & working it's way in

The only thing I can think of is to speak to your vet? There may be some homeopathic supplement or the equivalent available?

It's very difficult because she obviously isn't moody. Just a tart!

I'm sorry to say, but she does sound a naughty girly!

You can try suppliments such as Oestress and Stroppy mare which help naturally rebalance their hormones. If these don't chill her you can speak to your ver about regumate, but its not cheap stuff. Like the vet said to me its like the pill for horses. Her seasons will be stopped and the hormones surpressed.
Hope this helps!

She's late teens as far as we can tell so maybe she thinks it's her last chance! He's only 8 so what does that make her? When her previous owner bought her from a dealer she still had milk so she has had a foal before & knows what it's all about.

It may be that as she realises that this gorgeous new bit of talent is lacking in the testicles department that she goes off him and becomes her normal self again over time. And by the way, why have you got a pic of MY mare in your sig strip wearing someone else's pale blue rug??????

Haven't got a piccie in my sig strip. Do you mean Irishcob?

Me? I haven't stolen anyone's horse. They are all mine.

I'm so glad I'm no the only owner of a slutty mare! Her temperament is always excellent and she's no different to ride, but when she's in season she is also an absolute slut. It's embarassing! Put her out in the other day (mixed herd) and she went trotting off (unusual in itself), straight up to a cob gelding, parked her bum in his face, squatted and squirted at him! He didn't know what to do, so went back to eating! And yes, she also gets a mucky back end- think I might try the baby oil suggestion.

Im having the exact same problem also but my mare is extremely grumpy and refuses to be caught or generally handled if she can run away before you get a chance to grab the little cow shes got a big old bite mark on her bum for annoying my gelding to much!! I am thinking of trying something along the lines of stroppy mare but i know sometimes these things dont help but have herd that oestress works quite well for most mares?

Going to try the baby oil suggestion to

I've owned Patches for nearly three years and she was never mare like in her behaviour. So much she was referred to as "butch" a few times.

Since I took on two livery geldings in March she's been a changed character. Talk about being a brazen hussy! She parks her bum at Taz's front end and spins around with him until he is right behind her. He then "performs", mounting her. She ALWAYS starts it, but once the "sap has risen" he will trot across the field when she's eating to mount her.

We've had to separate them. She has been in a pretty constant season now since they arrived. I don't won't to go down the Regumate route as it'll cost more than the livery money to treat her with it....so seems pointless.

It's highly embarrassing though. Thankfully she's no different to ride whatsoever, neither is my friend's gelding. She also has the mucky back legs that I am constantly washing. Hers are stained now though, with her being grey.
