Smal dogs spending all day outside at work?

I am thinking of getting a dog, I would like a small dog
... Thinking of a papillion or a pomeranian or possibly an Italian greyhound, but I spend all day outside at my yard, we do have heated tack rooms and a large house for lots of coffee breaks!?! Are these dogs too small/soft for an out doorsey life? I know IG's feel the cold massively :/ but with rugs would they cope?

Any suggestions...
Must be small, relatively easy to train and the main thing is nothing that is likely to be agressive/snappy, must get along with other dogs as we have a patterdale, JRT, and collie at the yard!
 
Our jack russell likes to be on the yard..

However odly enough so does our long hair chihuahua... however she does have to nip off to be warm..

They both have coats he isnt bother about his but she needs her on as she is wussy in comparison
 
I was thinking of a Jack Russell also. Typical yard dog :)

If not, get a Cav and a coat for said cavalier for winter, you can't beat them!!! My breed of choice :)
 
Don't go for an Italian Greyhound. Highly sensitive and difficult to train and to be frank they seem to prefer their own sort to hang out with. We have one and while we love her they are definitely not a dog for the fainthearted. IMO.

Given what you already have I think you'd do better with another terrier type.
 
I have a Chi who comes to work with me, he stays in his pen during the day which I draughtproofed and he wears a little jacket, I let him out a few times a day to go to the toilet and play with the other dogs.

I leave him in the pen as he doesn't have alot of sense and gets too close to the horses so for his own safety he only comes out when I can give him my full attention or when no horses are out.

He hasn't appeared to be cold, when it was really cold I brought a hot water bottle which I wrapped in a blanket but I don't think he really needed/wanted it!
 
I have 2 yard JRs They are brill on the yard. The younger one wondered a few times before i got his bits snipped but hasnt in nearly a year since theyve been off.
They will try and get rats but dont ever go off on a scent, they just follow me round all the time. There great with the horses pretty much ignore them aprat from when they have carrots in there feeds and will go in and steal them!!!:D
They werent really hard to train on the yard TBH i just let them out and they followed me. I did take them down from a young age. And when they were younger i did put them in a stable if i was riding ect and couldnt keep and eye on them, but now they are out all the time. There ever so good when teaching/riding the just sit at the fence or on the chair by the edge watching!!
Mine are a bit whimpy they have 2 coats each a waterproof and one similar to a stable rug on and have to admit last week in the snow they had both on!!!:o But they are really short haired!!!

Here they are sporting their waterproof rugs.

We have a Parsons JRT on the yard, he refuses to wear a coat, is very loyal, crap at hunting and never wanders. He follows me all day long and comes with me on hacks. He's a dude :D
