My filly was kicked 13 days ago on her forearm.

Those photos were take 3 days after the injury.

It's been healing up nicely until now, but this morning I noticed a few round baubles of yellow proud-flesh starting to protrude the centre of the healing wound. It's minor (only about 10mm x 8mm, and rises about 2mm above the skin surface) but it's a concern.

I've been keeping the wound moist with Gold Label Wonder Gel and been covering it with a breathable dressing to keep it clean, stop her rubbing it and the flies off it.

Should I worry? Or treat it in any way? Or just leave it???

Last time I encountered proud flesh the vet dealt with it, as it was on a major wound and on a major scale after a serious accident.

Proud flesh is usually only a problem on the lower leg, a bit of granulation tissue is quite normal and is part of the healing process. Don't worry about it; a wound in that area will heal well.

If your vet has seen the wound call them and ask for some dermasol or some equivelent as i used this and it helps to reduce any proud flesh forming good luck x

Proud flesh is usually very red as it has a massive supply of blood vessels but no nerves.

Wash the wound well with saline and smear active manuka honey on it. Yoou may have to get it from a health food shop, the higher the rating the better.

Have become a total convert to honey since seeing the healing rate of a friends horse who split it's shoulder open by crashing a gate post.

Many thanks. I'll remember that. A couple of people have suggested honey.

The wound is looking a lot better a couple of weeks on. There's going to be a scar inevitably but the threat of a proud flesh overload has dimished, thankfully.
