Gorgeous weather...... and everyone's making hay.

So am just wondering re. prices.

For small bales.

Have been quoted £3.50 per bale if we collect out of the field ourselves; £4.00 if they deliver.

Haven't seen the hay as yet so no idea as to quality.

This is in my area, East Devon.

Wondering how this compares with the rest of the country?

New Forest

I am hearing £3.00 to £3.50 off the field, £3.50 to £4.00 delivered.
There is an awful lot of hay about this year round here :D

Here in Suffolk, ours was £2/bale off the field and £3/bale if in barn. Lovely meadow hay, no weeds!

Humph. £5.25 here. That's my bit of Scotland for you, everything expensive (apart from the houses!). Humph again.

Ohhh, not feeling any better!!

Sorry! If it makes you feel any better, we think we punctured a tyre on the Shogun getting it into the field - if we can't repair it, that will be £100 for a new tyre, making the hay a LOT more expensive! Fingers crossed we can plug the hole!

Now I need to know how many square bales to a round bale... Any ideas anybody?

Oh no - poor you! Now I feel terrible! Always an unexpected expense where anything to do with the ponies is concerned. Fingers crossed it's fixable :)

Just ordered mine this morning. £3.50 off the field delivered and stacked :)

Really really happy with that and he's going to remove my muck heaps too which is the most exciting thing ever to me.

Yes I lead a dull life!

got 419 bales off the field, so far worked out at £1.40/bale. but then i did move them all myself with the use of my ivor williams trailer in the 31 degree heat last week  took me 2 days to recover ! not sure if there's going to be enough though as i normally have 45-50 large round bales of haylage, decided to go with small bales of hay this year as have brought a second hand barn to put up on my field. needed it to work out cheaper as barn costing a fortune to sort out, having to pay nearly £400 for planning ! but hopefully will be worth it in the long run

hay prices round here usually around £3.00-£3.50 per bale off field / barn so about average - should be plenty of good hay around this year as weather has been beautiful for making, just hope it keeps well into winter and we have a nice short mild winter this year
