Hi all,

I'm considering moving to my friends yard, but will need to buy my own hay or haylage. Currently ned is eating 2 haynets of haylage a day, but at this new yard everyone is on hay and small bales. There is room for a big bale of hay which I would preferably buy . What I'm asking is how much hay would I use and which is the cheaper option obviously? Hope that makes sense. Just trying to work everything out.

Big bales are the cheaper option if you can store one undercover.

My two ISH are on hay/haylage pretty much 24/7 and they would eat nearly two small bales a day at £5/bale. Big bales cost us £35 and one lasts us a week...

ive just started using round bales, wish i'd used them before, they are so much cheaper! last winter I was putting out up to 2 bales a day for my 2 and they cost £4.50 a bale. now I pay £30 for a round one and have it in the barn, so it doesn't ruin the field! they eat it when they want! my last bale lasted 2 months but now the grass has pretty much gone I reckon it will last about a month! so its much much cheaper to feed it that way! and they are never without hay!!
