My friend's horse has developed small little bumps/scabs over his face and his hindquaters. He isn't itchy at all but wondered if anyone had any advice? He doesn't seem to be as shiny as normal. You can't see the scabs as they are covered by his hair. Thanks

These could be sarcoids. There are more than just the 'usual' type of sarcoid...there are at least a dozen types but they all seem to grow on the areas of thin skin and sweaty areas too...face, hind quarters, inside of forearms-girth area.
Are any of these scabs oozing?

None of them are oozing now, they are just little scabs. Could it be rain scald? Or they have lots of burs in the field and i was wondering whether he could have got an irritation from this ?

sounds like fox mites

my donkey has had this 2 years running she has them all over her back and chest and neck you can pick them off they rarely bleed i used a cat flee comb to comb them out.

I then used an antibacterial shampoo like hibi scrub or absorbeine lice shampoo every other day. she had loads of balds spots too

It could be rainscald but the horse would show some sign of itching as it would be like us with a flaky scalp as the scabs fall...the fur would also fall as the scabs do causing fur-less patches, plus for it to be bumpy wouldn't it of been noticeable before this stage?has the horse come in with any burs attached to his coat, partically within these bumpy areas?

Never known of burs to cause allergies like scabs as they can be used in skin disorders as it says on this info i found here-
Common holistic cures for allergies include the feeding of burdock (yes those pesky burs that rat manes and tails) and red clover. For allergies that cause eczema, common herbs like comfrey, calendula and witch hazel may be used.
Mites would cause itchiness and clear discomfort
