Hi
I appear to be growing a monster. I have a 2 year old who stands 16/16.1hh with a very high head carriage. As she is she's just to big for my ifor 505, she'd squeeze in but would be at risk of getting a sore head.So we're not geting to go anywhere this year, which is a shame as she was a fab sports horse yearling. Now thinking i'm going to have to get a lorry. I passed my test in ?2001 so need to sit a test or get a 3.5 tonner. Are there any makes out there that would be big enough for her if she matures to 17hh+. is 8ft interna height enough or is it a pinch?
thank you

most 7.5 t only have headroom of 7,6 to 7,10. an ifor 510 has similar roof space. i travel a couple of large bulky 17.1. my lorry roof space is 7,6. they are fine.

We travel our 17.1 DWB in a Renault Dodge 50 - plated at 6.6 tonne - however we are moving to an Ifor Williams 510 - we have tried her in it and there is plenty of room.

Being a dumbblood the only thing she had to work out was not to pull the hay in the haynet upwards to get it out - it only took a couple of times before she realised that throwing her head up to get the hay out equalled pain.

Must point out that whenever we travel, no matter what she is travelling in, we always use a pollguard - just in case.

I have just bought a Renault Master 3.5 and it is really roomy and airy- the previous owner says he has had a 17.2 in it before! I think best thing is just to take measurements etc :) It's definitely offers more room than my friend's 7.5 tonne

Sounds good that it is possible. Will have a look at them at the highland in a few weeks. She's quite claustrophobic n has always hated the trailer even with partition out. Once she's in it and moving she's ok tho. At least with a 3.5 I'd be able to go out n about on my own

We have a 6.5t and travel our 18hh in that with ease. There is just under an 8ft headroom and he is fine.

I personally would not have put him in a 3.5ton.

There is the length from behind the horse to any breast bar to consider and also weight limits.

I also like the 2.5ton payload and stability of ride.

We did squeeze him into an Ifor once, thanks to his good nature he tried, but we didn't travel him in it, he looked vaccum packed:)

A 5.5ton or 6.5ton drives very much like the 3.5t rather than a wagon and would give you plenty more payload and a little more space to kit out how you want it.

Yes cch I think my gut feeling is telling me that n to just get my lorry licence. Plus opens up options for living etc. Thinking of hiring a 3.5 to go to futurity in aug and then I can get a good look at it n see what's she's like in it before she grows anymore! Looking at her today she's gonna be chunky and big so weight will be an issue (balou du rouet x oddysseus). She has legs like tree trunks just now
