Having spent years breeding sports horses, I have now got my daughters Dartmoor due to foal mid May time. Now, the question is this, a friend of mine says that small ponies tend to foal earlier than horses. Not sure whether this is an old wives tale or if there is any truth in it. I havent bred any littlies before so not sure what to think. This will be her 3rd foal (I only got her last year) with no problems with previous foalings. I am unable to contact her previous owner regarding how long she went. I have never heard of this before but I havent been involved with breeding small ponies, so thoughts please!

We find not much difference and we breed both. Ponies do tend to be much quicker than horses in the actual birthing process but im sure thats not the case with them all!!! We have one mare that religiously goes 10 days early and another mare that is always 21 days late, but the majority of mine go 10 days late!!!!
