I am looking to compete my 14.2 in the new year, he is a belgian warmblood and has fab conformation. We would be looking to do small ridden hunter classes but was wondering what the judges look for weight wise, temprement wise and muscle wise? anyone have any idea's?

post a picture and let us look!

Small hunters should measure up to 15.2 - and they all do - right up to 15.2

14.2 is technically a pony....

I've watched the supposed 'small hunters' at the Great Yorks a number of times and I would say that 90% of the class were bigger than my 16hh mare.

Its not fair but they get away with it, so I'm afraid your Pony would look out of place.

My 14.3hh Lippizanner has won many Small Hunter classes and Hunter championships at local shows beating much bigger horses.
I've never tried him at county level, but my advice would be give it a go at local level and see what happens. if you're an adult you'll be too old for SHP classes (I've often thought it's a pity adults cant show 15hh SHPs when they can ride small M&Ms!)
