Small riders on big horses going cross country.

I don't event but I have a 17.3h IDx who showjumps and I'm 5'5.
He's a sweetie to handle but he can be a bit cheeky under saddle, especially when there are jumps involved.
 
Wish I could call myself "petite"! I have a minimum I'll ride as opposed to a maximum since I'm tall and chunky enough to get away with any height/size, although I have certain types I prefer. One of mine is a 17.1hh WB but I much preferred eventing my little buzzy 16hh Luso x TB, so much easier to sort striding out on a little horse!
 
I'm 5ft 3ins and my new mare is 15.3hh and I think she may end up 16.0hh at a push. When I was eventing in the past the biggest horse I had was 16.1hh and my top 2 horses were just 15.2hh and both easily went intermediate so given I'm not tall I feel very happy on a horse on the smallish side and don't think smaller eventers lack scope. Funnily enough at the weekend I schooled an advanced horse who is 16.2hh and while he was a dream to ride, I looked like tiny on him.
