Small sized cob bridle

‘Mini-cob’ pony has a short, fat head. Pony bridles are too small. Some cob sizes are too big; others fit on shortest holes. He’s just starting work and this won’t be his forever bridle, but he’s currently in a black bridle and brown saddle and my OCD can’t deal with it so am after a mid-range bridle that won’t break the bank and preferably comes up on the smaller side. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Buy a cob bridle and pony cheekpieces? That's what I've had to do before for awkward sized heads. Iirc, shires sometimes have spare cheekpieces etc for sale separately. Might have to punch a couple of holes in the noseband too though, if the cob one is too long.

Echo Speedy pony. I have a mini cob with exactly the same issue. Buy the bridle bits seperately. We found a cob headpeice and nose band, pony cheek pieces and a cob - and even sometimes full - browband worked. Watch only that the pony cheek peices are the right leather width. Some pony bridles have a narrower gauge.

Buy it in parts not as a whole to get a good fit and remember to take into consideration the bit you use when measuring the cheek pieces. As a bridle maker I rarely see a horse that it is an off the peg bridle size; the most common problems I see are too short browbands and too long cheek pieces.

English Bridles are lovely quality, pretty reasonable and you can buy piece by piece for no extra cost. I have to sell mine as Charlie doesn't like it (full size so no good for you!) so need the money to fund the new one and it's making me very sad.

My Welsh C was like this. I used to buy cob bridles and pony cheek pieces and swap them over. I only bought 'tradional' cavasson bridles though nothing flashy.

That's pretty much what I have. You can buy separate pieces from Sabre and they are, or were (my bridle will be 10 years old now), good quality.

I was being a bit of a skinflint and not really wanting to spend more than £60ish, but it looks like I might need to think about spending a bit more and getting something more permanent.
