What about Court Crooner, he has some lovely eventers on the ground and had some smaller blood in his genes. Kilvinton Scoundrel is the other one that springs to mind.
I would concentrate on performance lines so that if it grows too big because of the dams blood it still, hopefully is useful.
We chose Brenwode Broket for a big mare for that reason. Sadley the foal was malpresented and didnt survive so cant tell you if looks as though it works but other on here seem happy.
Another suggestion: Wurlitzer (Weltmeyer x Lucky Boy xx). He's only just 15.2 (max!) himself and used on ponies has produced some cracking sports pony types, always high up in the young dressage horse classes. I think with the right dam he could produce a seriously classy event pony.
Definitely would look at reg Connemara stallions as the reg ones have to be 14.2hh max and you can look at the back breeding to make sure there was nothing overly big produced. I've put my 16hh ISH mare to a Connie stallion "hoping" to breed a teenagers eventer type of about 15.1hh (well that's the plan anyway).
I just wanted to post and reiterate what a few other people have said about the height genetics of your mare. It may be that you will not be able to breed the pony offspring that you are hoping for, regardless of the sire's size.
I bred 2 full siblings from my old 15.2½hh TB mare years ago. Both were by the same 16.3hh TB stallion.
Foal number one made 14.1hh and the second 14.3hh. (The mare was an established broodmare when I purchased her so neither were a 'first foal'.)
I bred the first offspring (the 14.1hh one) to a 15hh TB stallion and produced a colt who matured at 16.1hh, and her second foal by a lovely 14.1hh Connemara stallion, finished at 15.3½hh (great event horse BTW).
The second foal out of the old TB mare (the 14.3hh one) was put to another Connie stallion (14.2hh) and her filly now stands 15.2½hh at 21 months old
Like you, I had been rather hoping to breed a handy sort of sports pony. Given up now
I rode a horse that was out of a tb mare by waylands golden harry - a new forrest stallion. He had a lovely temperament and was very willing, but I think he took a few conformation faults from the tb side.
Hi, have a look at Olympus Cherokee Chief, a 15.2 proven all rounder, sound, pretty and with manners to burn. I'm going to use him (AI) on my too big mare this time to, hopefully, get something smaller but capable. I struggled to find a good sports horse that was under 16 hands.
TOP YELLOW, is 14.2hh Palamino Westphalian and he holds the record for the highest score ever awarded to an approved pony stallion, 21 points ahead of the number 2!
He received no score under an 8.5 and achieved a 9.5 for walk an 8.5 for trot and a 9.0 on canter !!
Top Yellow won the bundeschampionate (championship for young pony stallions) in 1996 and 1997, and I have seen his jump and it is breathtaking, I reckon he would have gone JA no problem! He is standing at the Nibeley Stud this yr! xx
Hi, We have used Hilken's Black Delight on our pony mare twice and both times bred stunning colts, beautifully put together and extremely nice temperaments. HBD has amazing conformation and presence and is extremely good at dressage, and jumping (he also has been driven). He got excellent marks for his jumping and cross country in his performance test in Germany, and his bloodines are full of very succesfull jumpers, although his rider and owner doesn't jump him herself. You can get more detail about him from www.blackingtonstud.co.uk and I think you can have a look at his youngstock there too. He's nice and short coupled and has a fabulous hind-leg, and a beautiful neck. So should suit your mare well I would think. Best of luck anyway, there are lots of good stallions out there, but this is one we particularly like and we have been over to Germany to see him in the flesh a few times and are always blown away by him.
