I have a pony mare I wish to breed from.

Sec D X Newfie, SJ'd 120cm evented successfully at BE Novice.

fabulous temperament, OK conformation (bit long in back and short in leg). Full up 148cm (probably 15hh behind). 16 year old maiden, still fit and well. Bright bay (out of chestnut mare)

I would like to breed a useful RC/event type, if it has half it's mums attitude ability and brain it will be a winner.

I would like to refine the mare, add height and make everything a bit more uphill.

So far I have looked at Groomsbridge May I and American Agent and also Washington Postman.

I an NE Herts as the mare is a 16 yr old maiden I would prefer to use fresh/chilled/natural rather than frozen. I guess it would be easier if we could find a stallion within 2 hours drive if we chose to send her there.

Anyone any ideas.

Ideally under 16hh.

I know that he's neither trak or tb, but Flipper d'Elle has two kids in the top 1000 in the world eventing rankings and AND he's only 15,2hh.

to to answer you question, wasn't there a trak pony at the Expo? BO Diddley or something like that?

I used May I last year, foal due any day.
It was his temperament that sold him on me, I want something easy! All his offspring I saw were very nice and my mare is a little downhill and long in the back so Sally said he tends to imporve that, as well as throw excellent hind legs.

Hi Thistle, having met your lovely mare and also met the Groomsbridge boys, if I were looking for a TB stallion for her I would choose May I. His first babies coming out under saddle are from very small crops and are showing a lot of promise and I think he compliments her well. As you know I am also biased towards Kings Composer, esp. now his semen chills! If a Track, then I would consider going to see Godington Hannibal, Future Illusion (as you know a son of Fleetwater Opposition) and Contis.

Lots for me to think about here!

Sally how refreshing to see someone recommend other stallions when they have some lovely ones of their own.
Some stud connections on here only seem to post to discredit others.

I really like American Agent, he almost compliments the mare better, how I wish he had babies on the ground already, or that I could gamble!

Future Illusion is gorgeous, however I already have an 'Opposition' mare who we love dearly, on a good day she is fantastic
however she has heaps of 'attitude'

Thats no problem although i will say that i agree with SN ,May I would be the one i would use on her for the reasons stated.
His babies are getting out there under saddle at the moment from small crops and proving what good temperaments and trainability they have but then i am biased .

If you don't mind considering frozen, have a look at Coconut Grove xx and Special Memories (Trakehner).

Cristobal, stands at Keatinge stud, is a smaller stamp of Trakehner, aimed at eventing.

May 1 as already suggested, for passing on trainability and correct conformation

Weston justice is either 7/8ths or 15/16ths TB and again a neat smaller stamp and proven himself at advanced

Godington Hannibal is also on the small side and again proven at advanced

There is also a nice small Tb stallion in the south - I want to say Bollin Eric, or Terry something like that

Volatis - I think you are thinking of Bollin Terry. He used to stand at West Kingston stud, when I saw him. A really nicely put together stallion and I think a lot of people liked and used him for eventing and showing stock. Think he has moved and is standing further north now.

I do like the look of American Agent and feel he will become a well known stallion in the future.
Weston Justice is another good one.
If you want a lovely T stallion Future Illusion is my choice, go and watch the clip of him XC schooling early on in his training, he is as bold as brass and so trainable.
Any chance of a pic of the mare because you can't really suggest which may suit without seeing what she needs from a stallion first.
