I am a experienced horse owner but the last couple of years have left me feeling a little cheated my first mare who I bought from a foal and who I had high hopes for got kicked in the head whilst grazing just after I had backed her and had to have re-constructive surgery.

If this wasn't enough she was diagnosed with KS which she was operated on and again after months of re-hab started working again a couple of months on she went lame and after yet another Scintigraphy scan the mare had problems with her sacroilliac joint. Strange that she was fine before the fractured skull! I needed to give her time.

I bought another foal she grew and grew and I was very uncertain in my ability to be able to ride this giant horse after such a long time out the saddle people told me to sell her as she was far too big for me etc etc.

I kept her and today I am so happy and proud of our progress, we are not setting the world on fire by any means but she is young and safe and will take me wherever I want to go. I have a lovely instructor who gives me confidence and a secondhand saddle at last that fits for now!

Its been 7 years but well worth the wait! Small things that make us happy. This is really for anybody out there feeling a little bit cheated or having a bad time with their horse it can work out so stick with it!

Yay! It is so good to hear of such a happy outcome.

Nice to hear how well things are going, hope it continues for a long time to come.

How is the original youngster who had all the problems? Did she recover?
