On the pony that hates to be stabled
He moved to his new yard on the 13th November. He settled very quickly! was stabled for 24 hours and wormed but was apparently very happy to have a nice big bed and haynet
Showing his lack of living a normal yard life, he spooked at a wheelbarrow
And couldn't figure out how to use the automatic water feeder
On his first day in the field he proceeded to pace up and down the fenceline and call to his old herd who called back! his new yard is just over the road from the old one so must have been weird that he could hear and smell his old herd but couldn't see them. On the monday he was further away from the fence and no calling and even started to make friends
Including grooming the head honcho!
Loaner started to work him gently and we were all waiting for my saddle to be delivered, cue it being delivered and then sent back. Shoddy manufacturing and loaners dad offered to pay for a saddle, that way they could buy it and get it fitted at the same time and not have to worry about scuffing it etc. Bless them
But they hasn't stopped her! He was a bit of a pain to get cantering at first, but she's jumped him a few times and hasn't been put of at all by his mannerisms
Phil has a habit of refusing the first jump, then dragging you to it, getting over excited, jogging and then refusing again
But she wants to do some sjing with him and by the sounds of how far he's progressed already, and the time they've got to prepare, it won't be long
On the 27th he was taken to another yard where my friend had a lesson, so loaner took Phil too for the ride
There was a course of small jumps set up and so they had a go with all of those. Apparently he got very excited and did a few little bucks
But he also cleared his first proper show jumps and proper filler (an orange and black fence type)! Cue happy mum
Then the snow came, so no riding in the school but w/t/c bareback in the field, yay!
Anyway this has been the best decision ever. He's happy. I'm happy and she's happy and I couldn't have asked for more
And as it turns out, seems he quite likes his creature comforts and is near the gate at bringing in time
