CCj has had a windfall from her Grandma and wants to buy a new hacking jacket.
She currently has a sort of keeper's tweed 100% green- ish with a faint orange stripe in it made by Caldene.
It fits very well but sometimes in summer it's so hot, so she thought she would buy a lighter material one.
She's not terribly tall and a curvy shape so Caldene fit her well, any suggestions anyone? She bought a pikeur blue jacket but has only worn it once as the shoulders have come up too wide..
Any ideas, preferably with pics? Thanks!

I have the one on the left- nice jacket
I use it for showing summer and winter and it's fairly cheap (for a jacket it is! (about £70))

I love some of the other showing jackets- miss candy or prettyponies

Depends what sort of thing you are looking for- the show jackets have some stunning checks through them

I think she's set a budget of around £200 so these are probably a bit expensive, she also wants a new Comfort Zone cooler, some long leather boots and a new bridle.. yes it was a decent windfall!
I got twice her amount but mine's going on upgrading the living area of the box...

Tip for HH- don't google 'Miss Candy' it's her mother Mrs Candy you want!

Mrs Candy lovely jackets

The Alexander James jackets are lovely.
The lady at Mrs Candy is very helpful and I phoned up, she took all my measurements over the phone and then waited until she had something come in second hand- I had a tiny budget and couldn't have a made to measure one P:)

Just looked at the Alexandra James, lovely jackets, we have figured out her current heavyweight is a Caldene Belvoir and am now stuck as to what size to order in the lightweight. She syas she will be happy with the same jacket but not so hot in summer!
Her current jacket is a 36 but is really quite tight, not even half an inch to spare.
We measured her and she's really a 38" but is worried the 38" will be wider across the shoulders which is why she never wears her pikeur..
If anyone has a Caldene size 38" hacking jacket could you do me a huge favour and measure the distance on the back from the point where the arm seam meets the back to the opposite one , it's a very obvious place when you look at the jacket from the back. the size 36" is 13 and a half inches, and that fits her shoulders perfectly.
Otherwise it's go and find a shop, try the jackets on then order from Almira, (I don't like the chap he did us over the first Pikeur jacket we bought) but he is the cheapest around to buy from...

His jacket is £95 against well over a hundred from anywhere else so I'll bite my tongue and order...

Mine is about 10 years old now - my caldene hunt coat is a 40 and only 13 inch across the back and way too tight for a decent layer underneath!

That's who I was going to say

The Alexander James jackets are great, and they will adjust them for a slight increase in cost. They will send you a swatch of materials so you can choose the weight, and give you a form to complete for precise measurements. I would have thought it was worth making a phone call to them to see what the cost would be for a made to measure. They were selling off loads at Olympia last week (not much use to you now though!) - but they are really good quality and do hang very well.

It may be worth trying on someone else's lightweight jacket and riding in it. I bought a lighter weight jacket several years ago, but was never happy with the way it hung, and rarely wore it. Since then, I have always bought the heavier weight cloth and sweated - they really do hang better with the heavier cloth!

Great site, I would far rather buy from anyone than Almira, what happened was I rang and ordered a pikeur jacket and he said if I could find anywhere in the Uk that would deliver quicker than his expected 6 weeks he would refund.
Well I did, so rang him and cancelled within half an hour and he agreed to refund.
Six weeks later a jacket arrives, two sizes too small.
I rang and explained the agreement we had, said I'd cancelled and that anyway the jacket he'd sent was two sizes smaller.
He sent a refund alright, minus £45 for cancellation...
so really really don't want to deal with him again if poss!!!
many thanks..

id vouch for both Alexander James and Pretty Ponies jackets - love both makes. Ive had 2 pretty ponies tweed jackets and now a navy wool jacket too and they are just stunning and last for ever and hold their value

I have a "Winning Ways" hackign jacket... well a navy one too now Lol They operate form Sponden Saddlery which is in devon i think. I brought both of mine through their ebay shop but they have a website too.

I have a fab Barbour hacking jacket, they do one with a blue tinge, & one with green in it, they are warm but lightweight. Have used mine all summer no problems. Hasn't gone out of shape and fits really well. Replaced a VERY old caldene with it 2 and a bit years ago. But not cheap round £165 or £185 can't remember which, but for me worth every penny.
