I need to smarten up my TB's tail for summer shows. I've never pulled a tail before (and to be honest, I don't think my horse would let me!) so I was thinking of using one of those coat rake thingummys. Are they any good for achieving a 'pulled' effect as shown on their website?

Yep they re great. They do pull a bit I think so don't stand right behind and give him a shock but I did my youngster no prob. Really nice finish.

fatponee, STOP RIGHT THERE :)

I haven't seen the particular brand of tool you are refferring to but if it is something similar to the ones ive seen in tack shops etc, it will be quite pricey! Before spending the money why not go to a pet shop and see what they have for dogs which looks suprisingly similar ;) and see what the price is! I pulled my coloured, both my show ponies and my riding horse all with a dog grooming tool !! :)

rakes work quite well on thick cob tails, but not so well on finer tb tails. i would pull it properly there really is no substitute! do it gradually over a week remember the first few pulls are the sharpest bit like waxing your legs!

ofcourseyoucan - I think I might be tempted to have a teeny weeny go with one sorry! But if it all goes wrong I shall come back grovelling and telling you you were right!!

Do I go for a 'fine' or 'extra fine' one?
