Jasper had his teeth "done" four weeks ago. His mouth was rather smelly, to say the least, before surgery but was markedly improved (almost no odour at all afterwards, good for a dog of 13 for sure).

Now, we're only four weeks down the line and his mouth is suddenly beginning to smell again, even when not overly close to him. Not as bad as it was before, but distinctly smelly nonetheless.

Is this normal, given his age, or is he likely to have developed an infection at this timescale post surgery?

I can't decide if I'm expecting too much from the surgery or whether it's worth ringing the vets for a chat in the morning.

I would probably be phoning mine, if it got better and then started again, I would want to know why it came back. As you say, could be an infection, maybe his immune system went down a little after going through the surgery, which I presume so to say, "drained" some energy from him which could have made his immune system a little more vulnerable?

Also some foods make their breath smell more than others, not to mention that there's a few diseases that could be smelled on their breath, at least my vets have sometimes sniffed my dogs breath when they have had certain possible suspicions in their mind, can't remember what diseases it was though, but anyway as said I would probably at least phone and ask.
