Smelly hat

How do you all keep your hats smelling fresh.

Mines been sat in my tackroom for a while and now smells really bad

Weeeell, can't say I've tried it myself, but I have heard that if you put a sanitary towel inside the brow, it mops up sweat and keeps hat smelling fresh. I wouldn't dare do it, as it would be typical of me to forget and take my hat off, leaving said towel stuck to my head

I shamefully have this problem so I have a charles owen one that I can take the bands out of.

I wash mine quite regularly. I mix a solution of warm water and washing powder and sponge the inside well. Then I hang it near the aga, but not too near because you don't want it to get too hot. It can take up to a couple of days to dry properly, but I've got two hats so I'm OK.

I always wear a bandanna (sp) and this gets washed every 3 days so my hat smells beautiful. You can wash the bandanna less if you are not riding many horses each day. Works a treat!

Thanks. Its not because its been sweaty (im far to lazy to get it sweaty lol) its been hung up and i think my sister said it had mouse dropping in it (its a new hat which i forgot to put back in the bag oops) ill bring it home tomorrow and give it a wash

Wipe out with damp cloth of a mixture of warm water with a tablespoon of bicarb of soda, works when wiping car seats when someone has over indulged on an evening out.
