My lurcher always grins like a silly cheshire cat when he greets people. Some people are put off by this as we are taught that showing teeth is a sign of aggression. However, Jim is being very friendly and doesn't have an once of aggression in his body. Why is it that some dogs "smile" like this? Is it a form of submission? I know of a labrador and a couple of dalmatians that do this too. Funnily enough Jim does it sometimes to me when I come home but always to a lesser degree than anyone new.

My girl (lab) does it too. Depends how happy she is to how much she grins!

Know of other labs that do it too!

I love it when she smiles! You can so tell it is a smile & not a snarl!

Ellie, my spaniel does this, and 'waves' at the same time with front right leg/paw! Very silly!

Just about to go into 'smile and wave' mode

Kensa, my lab also smiles at tea time whilst 'dancing' on the spot. If she was a horse she'd be a top dressage diva :D:D:D
