Sneaky instructor as been helping me with horses schooling and my nerve after loosing it badly with last horse.Amongst other things trotting poles became an issue.Everything was an issue really.Anyway today she decided, as she sometimes does, to spend the first part of the lesson riding Red and schooling. She said she would do trotting poles, so I obediently put them down and off she went.My turn to ride came and I was practising my transitions etc when she said Time for the trotting poles I think and I was over them before I could think about it

A real step up BUT she is still sneaky

Perfect! I did my first ever x-country jump (tiny little step-up the size of a curb stone!) following RI on a hack somewhere I hadn't been before (so didn't know about non-optional jump). If they know you and horse well and are sensible sneaky instructors are the best!

well done! yep my first ever canter on a horse that i'd never ridden went along the sneaky route-she just told me to do sitting trot and keep kicking, and because i was focussing on not bouncing around in trot i ended up cantering without knowing.

haha my old instructor used to put SJ fences up while you were cantering round the school before the jump so that you didn't notice until too late!

She also used to say oh that, it's only 2'6", about every fence from 2'6" to 4 foot!!! So we'd be pooing ourselves about a 2'9" course when we entered the class but would always thing it was underbuilt when we turned up!!!!
