First of all i will say that Lambie the sheep is alive and well! snoopy after trying to cover her yesterday seems a little less stallionfied although he did look longingly over at Lambie as she lay in her shelter
Today was the 3rd time i have sat on him since him being on a course of antibiotics for his skin infection.
Friday was brief and although no napping he was still a little uneasy but fine and relaxed a little but i only rode him for 15-20 minutes.
His back didnt blow up with spots so he had his anitbiotics and went to bed.
Saturday i didnt get time to ride him.
Sunday morning i decided to get on him at the mounting block where hes been very difficult and wont leave the yard to go to the school.
Well he didnt disappoint and refused to move forward and threatened to rear but after just sitting there for about 2 minutes ignoring his bad manners he walked straight into the arena and put in some fabulous work (more what hes capable of).
I also rode him in the dressage saddle for the first time and no martingale.
Yesterday he had a day off due to me being poorly.
Today although ive been rough most of the day (and feeling really crap now btw) i felt it was important to just sit on him at least.
So went and caught him up and tacked up. HOpped on at the mounting block again and he stood there and just walked backwards about 3 strides which meant he backed into to the tackroom, this was enough to send him forward and we went straight into the school.
This time he was like riding winsotn, i was actually in shock. This is how he was going way before his problems with his back - but hes managing to hold an outline for longer and is much stronger over his back.
His canter he didnt hollow but after having a canter he does tend to run ona little in the trot, but by just rising slower he worked it out and returned to a nice softer trot.
I then did some walk and worked on movement in the slower pace then up to trot again lovely and he was really working forward with even steps.
He even put in some expressive medium trot and came back to me without throwing his head and hollowing too.
So i finished but decided i woudl try my luck at taking him up the drive which has been a complete no no since his spots irrupted.
So i take him to the small gate and he stopped, but i kicked on and he went through YAY all the way up to the enterance of his field and he then refused to move - he back up into the fence and this was enough for him to go on - got 3/4 of the way up the road and he refused to move again, but i sat there and ignored him and he then went on so he had a big pat this continued up until the last field gate when he really said NO!! so i sat there, he this time tried to rear, but it was really pathetic for him so i said fine we will sit here. Two ladies came along and we chatted - they went on and then he just gave in and went OH OKAY and walked on YAY so we walked up to YOs house and came home.
This was real breakthrough with him, before the spots this walk was fine for a cool off, but even with a horse 3 wks ago he wasnt interested and would literally stand up on his hind legs and refuse to move!
Today he was back to his normal *well im not sure i can be bothered and lets see what i can get away with* but sitting like a lump of lard works for him, he doesnt get beaten with a stick he just gets bored.
So BBs is much happier about future events now, as i really didnt think we would be able to leave the lorry how he was. So it seems it was a pain thing all along and hes returning to normality, although having a crush on an elderly sheep still concerns me.
Thanks for reading.
