First of all i will say that Lambie the sheep is alive and well! snoopy after trying to cover her yesterday seems a little less stallionfied although he did look longingly over at Lambie as she lay in her shelter

Today was the 3rd time i have sat on him since him being on a course of antibiotics for his skin infection.

Friday was brief and although no napping he was still a little uneasy but fine and relaxed a little but i only rode him for 15-20 minutes.
His back didnt blow up with spots so he had his anitbiotics and went to bed.
Saturday i didnt get time to ride him.
Sunday morning i decided to get on him at the mounting block where hes been very difficult and wont leave the yard to go to the school.
Well he didnt disappoint and refused to move forward and threatened to rear but after just sitting there for about 2 minutes ignoring his bad manners he walked straight into the arena and put in some fabulous work (more what hes capable of).
I also rode him in the dressage saddle for the first time and no martingale.

Yesterday he had a day off due to me being poorly.

Today although ive been rough most of the day (and feeling really crap now btw) i felt it was important to just sit on him at least.
So went and caught him up and tacked up. HOpped on at the mounting block again and he stood there and just walked backwards about 3 strides which meant he backed into to the tackroom, this was enough to send him forward and we went straight into the school.
This time he was like riding winsotn, i was actually in shock. This is how he was going way before his problems with his back - but hes managing to hold an outline for longer and is much stronger over his back.
His canter he didnt hollow but after having a canter he does tend to run ona little in the trot, but by just rising slower he worked it out and returned to a nice softer trot.
I then did some walk and worked on movement in the slower pace then up to trot again lovely and he was really working forward with even steps.
He even put in some expressive medium trot and came back to me without throwing his head and hollowing too.
So i finished but decided i woudl try my luck at taking him up the drive which has been a complete no no since his spots irrupted.
So i take him to the small gate and he stopped, but i kicked on and he went through YAY all the way up to the enterance of his field and he then refused to move - he back up into the fence and this was enough for him to go on - got 3/4 of the way up the road and he refused to move again, but i sat there and ignored him and he then went on so he had a big pat this continued up until the last field gate when he really said NO!! so i sat there, he this time tried to rear, but it was really pathetic for him so i said fine we will sit here. Two ladies came along and we chatted - they went on and then he just gave in and went OH OKAY and walked on YAY so we walked up to YOs house and came home.
This was real breakthrough with him, before the spots this walk was fine for a cool off, but even with a horse 3 wks ago he wasnt interested and would literally stand up on his hind legs and refuse to move!
Today he was back to his normal *well im not sure i can be bothered and lets see what i can get away with* but sitting like a lump of lard works for him, he doesnt get beaten with a stick he just gets bored.

So BBs is much happier about future events now, as i really didnt think we would be able to leave the lorry how he was. So it seems it was a pain thing all along and hes returning to normality, although having a crush on an elderly sheep still concerns me.

Thanks for reading.

Excellent news, sounds like the real problems were due to the spots and you can stop worrying and get on with things.

You've got to remember he is male so this could explain strange behavior such as a crush on a sheep.

Im really glad Snoopy is getting better and being more himself. Bit of a weird obsession tho - poor sheep!!!

Lambie loves him too!
She was bleeting to him whilst i was riding in the arena!

Thats good news. I have the opposite problem. We have a middle aged sheep who has a crush on my horse.!! She follows him round the field and stands in front of his nose waiting for him to scratch her back with his teeth! He gets really fed up with it but is so polite he wont be nasty to her. Its very funny to watch.

Yes subject to a bit of rain - tipping down here so hope it's on the way up.

We've had drizzle here on and off all day. This evening was better but came over very dark and started to rain again just as i was finishing riding.

Theyve had 1.2mm of rain at Withington and the aerator is working on the ground too.
So fingers x. I am looking forward too it

poor little lambie. Does Snoopy not see that she is but a cloud on legs.
grin.gif

He sounds like a little handful but as you are so patient, I`m sure that the consistency will pay off especially now that his back is getting better. They are just like kids aren`t they, just testing to see what they can get away with.

PMSL cloud on legs! like the butter advert.

He is a big kid that is his problem, but hes like a child who is very very bright - you only have to show him something once and he remembers!
I think he gets frustrated because of his very active brain.

NAWW just noticed your sig, your puppy is georgous.!!!

Great news. It sounds like he is much more comfortable and isn't associating work with the discomfort caused his spots. So glad to hear he is back and happy!

Good luck at the weekend.

PMSL at the sheep. Must come from his mother's side - my boy is scared witless of sheep.

Glad Snoopy is back on form.

Must be going through an adolescent stage - pimples and an overactive sex drive!!

PMSL yes, he was nearly issued with an ASBO!
I blame the sheep.

Pleased things have resumed some semblance of normality in my absence, but yes, I think you need to investigate his breeding more closely, there must be some welsh in there

Thanks hun.
Thought you would be pleased, as i was planning to do a straight swap wtih ernie, one morning you would have woken to find snoopy in his place lol

Glad everythig is good and now you have your first event to aim for - hooray!

Only just read this.

I am so pleased you are back on track with him, bless him being a sensitive chap. So least you know what was causing him to be, lets be polite here, a pest.

The boy sounds like he has bags of talent I really hope he works hard for you V.

Horses can have you down in the dumps one day and then floating on cloud 9 the next, but I have been told that the downs get not so bad as time goes on and the ups can only get better

.

Not sure what to say about the sheep though ...
