when my boy lays down I'm totally convinced he's dying! he groans like he's in pain, and often lays out right like he is dead!

because my mare colic's every year I am so worried about any horse that I see crashed out!

does anyone else have horses that groan or sound like they are snoring? is it normal? because my other horses don't do that :s

Our ID does at first I thought he was ill.
He also lies flat on his side in the stable doing REM sleep during the day and occasionally cantering in the sleep which is funny to see he's like an enormous dog.

I have a very elegant mare who snores like a train, even when she's awake, standing and just chilling out a bit. Sounds like she's about to expire but it's just her snoozing.

both of mine do it when they are rolling or lying down. Taz snores so loudly and when you go to get Rio out of bed in the morning (nearly always laying down when we go to get him out) he grumbles, groans then lies flat out with a big huff! You are not alone! Rio also groans when he is dozing standing up he also grumbles :o

I was returning home from exercise when a car came roaring down the rod towards me. It was one of the liveries. I was told that a certain horse was dying. He was lying down and making the most terrible noises and would not get up.

When I got back, about 5 minutes later, the poor horse was stood in the yard with several liveries around him not really knowing what to do. The horse was soaking wet over his head.
They thought he was dying and when he refused to get up they tipped water over his head! Poor horse was only sleeping. He always groaned and grunted when lying down.

Fox hunter that has to be the funniest story ever. The poor horse I did squirt my boy with fly spray as that's the only thing hea scared of. So he got up straight away hahahaha
