Snotty nose and slight temperature - teething??

I have an 18 month old shetland and 3 weeks ago he came in from the field with a snotty nose and a temperature of 39.2. He was absolutely miserable and clearly felt rubbish! Vet was called straight away and diagnosed sinusitis and gave him 2 weeks of antibiotics and 5 days bute. He finished the antibiotics on the 31st and the following Saturday he had a slightly snotty nose and a temperature of 38.5. Apart from that, he was his usual self. I phoned the vet again and they gave 5 days more antibiotics and if it happens again they want to do further tests.

I'm not worried about the 'S' word because I think he'd be very poorly by now and he shares a stable with my other shettie who is fine and his field mates are also fine. No lumps or bumps out of the ordinary.

My question is, is there any liklihood that this could be due to him teething? I know he is teething at the moment as he just wants to nibble everything! Apart from the snotty nose, hes fine in himself. Very chirpy, not off his food in the slightest but he is a bit more fidgety than usual when eating which I've put down to the teething. The snot is also clear.

Obviously I dont want to miss anything serious but equally so I don't want to go testing and scanning for something that isn't even there!

Thanks :)

Teething does not cause high temperatures or snotty noses.

I would ask your vet to do blood tests as it sounds more like a resilient strep infection or worse staff infection.

Broad spectrum antibiotics are hopeless on staff and takes a long time to get rid of it.

Just hope your wee lad can get on top of it, not much fun being poorly

I'd have a chat with the vet. Our boy got poorly in Sept/Oct wouldn't eat, clear snot just pouring out, turned out to be an allergy to fungal spores which led to an infection, poor fella, he's right as rain now. We had blood tests done as a matter of course as their first visit, then an endoscope after antibiotics had done their job.
