Hi all,

Recently, every morning that I go up to turn the horse out, one of them has a snotty nose, usually just one nostril. He does not have a cough or seem unwell in any way. Sorry for being graphic, but the mucus is white and once the horse is out he 'blows' his nose and the mucus goes and does not return when he is out. Any ideas?

The type of discharge you describe is usually associated with dust allergies, COPD in it's early stages, although normally they will also cough, while out it will drain and clear but when he comes in he is exposed to the allergen which basically causes the reaction you are seeing.
As it is the only sign you may get away with soaking hay and using a dust free bedding, if you don't already, once he gets out for the summer it will probably clear completely but from my experience it can gradually get worse every year until it becomes far more serious so it may be worth getting your vet involved now so you can have treatment to help clear him now and have a plan in place to try and prevent it coming back next winter.
