Bit worried tonight as 3 of mine have snotty noses.. 2 are like yellow/light green and my 2 yr old has black sticky discharge and a cough. Not wanting my foals to catch it.. should i get vet out straight away or keep an eye on it for next few days. They all are still there usual selves and have there usual appetites. What to do :/

If you can, isolate the ones who are symptomatic and check temps, if theyre up id call vet tonight for advice, they dont need to visit till tommorrow and be very careful with your handling doing the poorly ones last, making sure you dont go near the ok guys again until your "clean".

Coughing, Yellow/green and black discharge, light or not,for me would be a concern, its good theyve not got temps and are still eating/drinking but if mine id still speak to vets in the morning

I'd be worried about the black snot as this might have blood mixed in with it?

Even if they do not have temperatures I would consider speaking to the vet just to see if there is any medication that would ease their coughing as that might help prevent more horses getting infected esp as you have foals and also ease their suffering a bit - you how it is like when you have a cough it is not very nice.

Hi again everyone had the vet out as was very worried about the black snot..was very embarrased when the vet pointed out it was mud!! From the very dry ground and inhaling dust as they graze. Oh well better safe than sorry!
