Snow balling in unshod feet

Ok....so here's the thing.....my ponies - Welshies - are unshod.
We had snow - at last
When I fetched them in the A and C had high heels due to the snow balled in their feet and the D had none!
How ON EARTH would you stop this happening? I have experienced it with shod feet but not unshod

both mine are unshod and they get stilts. not much you can do about it unless you want to give up some of your socks/tights and put them on their feet ;-)

It must depend upon the type of snow. Mine is unshod, turned out every day from 7.30am - 4.30pm and never had snow compacting in her feet but the snow has been very dry and powdery.

We are really lucky that the snow here is the dry dusty type so our unshod girls are doing well in it. Only thing I can recommend are the usuals, vaselene/lard etc in them. I oil our girls legs to stop the snow dreadlocks! The oil seems to work better than hard stuff like vaselene as it doesn't go hard when it is frozen, so perhaps that might work better in their feet?
