Just wondered what everyone else did - It was something my farrier said on Wednesday about turning out as I may not be able to when the snow comes?

Personally mine all went out - in the same rugs they usually wear - in the blizzard - they played and then settled to graze through the snow and absolutely loved it - I couldn't understand why you'd want to keep them in?

Normally I always turn out in snow, but today the yard was icy and the gateways and approaches were severely rutted and frozen hard. I have had such bad luck with vet bills letely I decided not to risk it for one day!

mine stayed in- we didn't have much snow and so the fields were more hard and rutted with a bit of snow on the top so thought i better not risk it. they both had a leg stretch on the lunge tho this afternoon but did come in on stilts

My 2 went out for a few hours, once I could get past the ice in the gateways

Motor had nearly 3 hours out at 'grass', the longest time in over 4 years being free to eat as much as he liked

!!!! Shame it was all covered in snow :-( ...... but he seemed happy enough :-)

And you could see just how far my TB wandered across the field, then had a roll and then back to the field shelter to be nearer to Motor, aaaaah how sweet

Mine live out naked (except Benji Meldrew who has a medium weight on) whatever the weather.

The only time I feel for mine is when it rains through winter. Never worry about the snow..

Mine stayed in as the lane to the field was too icy to risk it. Also two of them are a not very sensible and don't want to stay out at the best of times! We dug and gritted a track to our lunge area so they could have a walk in there to stretch their legs and get some fresh air.

We did not really get much covering but it is freezing cold and rock hard everywhere. My lad is currently out 24/7 (for health reasons) but he spends most of his time stood in his field stable as that is where most of his food goes! But he would always go out even when we had 2 foot of snow last year.

Ours went out for a leg stretch while I mucked out, but they hung around the gate to make sure I didn't leave them.

The ground was really hard and rutted and they didn't really graze.

I don't leave them out in the snow if I'm going to work as once they get over the excitement, they are then bored. They may as well be standing in eating than running round bored and risking injury.

They will go out for an hour tomorrow, then come back in again.

Last year when it snowed they went out everyday for an hour, this went on for 12 days and they were quite happy.

Vardi went out in the school with the other two geldings in his medium turnout with a medium stable rug under it. Hooned around practised his sliding stops! Caused the neighbours to ask if we were not worried that they would break a leg! came in 6 hours later lay down and slept like a baby.

We told the neighbours that we had stopped looking as we couldn't handle the stress anymore but it would be more stressful to keep them in and watch them trying to batter the doors down!
