snow turnout

In general is it that unacceptable to ask a number of livery users to hold their horses in stable for 24-36 hours whilst 8 inches of snow melts of the fields which are made up of mainly greensand ? The water should dissipate quite quickly and will avoid excessive mud. These fields are the only fields they can use until april. Can 24-36 hours in stable be that bad !

For some horses yes. For others no. No hard and fast rule, depends on each individual horse IMHO.

All horses at my yard would cope with that, and 2 are crazy stallions, so I'd say yeah. They just might be a bit of a handful going out after their time in x

One full day and a half is not a huge deal in my opinion, not for me with my horse anyway, she is very good in the stable. Some may not cope so well however.

Horses cannot damage fields if they are covered in snow surely ?

Hi I don't think your getting the point. The question was over the aspect of asking horses to stay in for 24 hours not over the % of water melt.
