And the Vet won!
The Shad was due his flu booster, on today one of the worst days weather wise for a horse to need his jabs.. If the vet couldn't get up today, unless the temps go up dramatically in the next 10 days, my horse would have to restart them..
We're on a hill, where the snow drifts over the lane, so once that happens, it becomes impassible..

However, good fortune prevailed today, as when I arrived at yard on foot, horse was already in, mucked out, hays done etc... and vet arrived 2 mins later.. talk about result! :D
Jab done, teeth done as well, that's it for another 12 months, relieved doesn't begin to describe how I feel tonight :)

Well done to the vet . Nice to see a post appreciating vets, your vet is certainly not alone in battling awful weather to get to their patient, it's not a profession where you can take snow days !

Ditto what Murphys Minder said, nice to see a post appreciating veterinarians! :D

Wow for someone getting up and down that hill!

I have my boosters on Monday. I can no longer drive down our lane so really hoping our vet has a 4x4 to get down or ill be starting again!!

Daughter is a vet in Yorkshire and she doesn't have a 4 x4 :(. She did tell me the other day she had some snow socks, I thought she meant to go in her boots but apparently they are for the tyres.:p

OH was getting around snowy Shropshire yesterday with winter types, snow chains and 2 sleeping bags in the car. Was long winded getting everywhere but safe (phew). 2 wd with suitable tyres and chains/ socks is better than one of the lighter 4x4s with normal summer tyres.

Agree, my OH has put snow tyres on my vauxhall tigra the last 3 winters and it goes everywhere, people are astounded when I pootle past their little 4x4's stuck in a ditch :) Also my old YM had a little peugot we renamed 'the tractor', as that went everywhere on normal tyres!

Glad your vet made it out :)

Well done vet!

Mine did the same a couple of years ago; had to trek up to the field from the main road as the estate road was under rather a lot of snow. Couldn't even have ponies in for him as we have to lead in down the road, which was dangerously icy under the snow.
